Your Love is Better than Life.

I've been doing a Bible Study with friends for the last 10 weeks... it's Beth Moore's "Daniel" study and it's truly convicting and astounding at the same time. I give it a two thumbs up, a highly recommend and maybe even a gold star.

Last week, I was just kind of plugging along through a day about praying and really thinking about prayer. I got to the part about "worshipping" God. (Is that two "p"s or one?? I'm not going to look it up and the red squiggly line isn't under it either way... so there). Lately, I have been trying to figure out how to even DO that. I mean, saying "God, you are so good" or even "God, your awesomeness astounds me" seems so small. And even "Hallelujah" and "Holy, Holy, Holy" weren't making me feel like I was getting the job done.

After I finished reading, I just started my normal prayer moment and asked God... "WHAT does it mean to worship? How do I even DO that?" Immediately, the word that popped into my head was "Psalms." And, I was like... well DUH. We worship through songs. I personally feel like I'm truly praising God the most when I'm singing a song about how awesome He is... AND I've got a whole book of them right in front of my face. So I paused mid-prayer and opened it up just to see what I saw. And it was this:

O God, you are my God,

earnestly I seek you;

my soul thirsts for you,

my body longs for you,

in a dry and weary land

where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary

and beheld your power and your glory.

Because your love is better than life,

my lips will glorify you.

I will praise you as long as I live,

and in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;

with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you;

I think of you through the watches of the night.

Because you are my help,

I sing in the shadow of your wings.

My soul clings to you;

your right hand upholds me.

They who seek my life will be destroyed;

they will go down to the depths of the earth.

They will be given over to the sword

and become food for jackals.

But the king will rejoice in God;

all who swear by God's name will praise him,

while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Psalm 63

When I read "Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you"... I felt it. I mean, I felt God like he was sitting on my knee about to tell me what he wanted for Christmas right there on the couch. I haven't let Him in like that in a long, long time. And when I felt it, I just sat there and thought the name "God"... just let it echo in my head. And I was worshipping my God... whose love is better than LIFE. How cool is that? How AWESOME is that?
